ParlAmericas stands in solidarity with those affected by Hurricane Melissa

October 29, 2025 | Statement

ParlAmericas expresses its solidarity with the people and governments of the countries affected by Hurricane Melissa, which has resulted in loss of life, displacement, and widespread destruction across several parts of the Caribbean, in particular Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Cuba.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and our wishes for a swift recovery to those who have been injured. ParlAmericas stands with the communities now facing the difficult process of recovery and reconstruction.

As the region experiences increasingly severe and frequent extreme weather events, this tragedy highlights the fundamental reality of our deep interconnectedness and the vital need for coordinated regional action to strengthen climate resilience, disaster preparedness, and response capacities – especially in the most vulnerable communities.

ParlAmericas reaffirms its commitment to fostering parliamentary dialogue and cooperation to advance legislative responses to climate change and disaster risk reduction, and to promote sustainable development throughout the Americas and the Caribbean.
