SECURITY

ParlAmericas contributes to strengthening security across the hemisphere by fostering informed, inclusive, and cooperative parliamentary dialogue on evolving challenges to the safety, dignity, well-being and resiliency of individuals, communities, and states. Through tailored resources, thematic events, and strategic partnerships, we create spaces for parliamentarians to explore emerging security trends, exchange national experiences, and identify practical evidence-based legislative and oversight strategies that uphold the rule of law.

ParlAmericas’ work on Security is informed by a human security perspective, which places the protection and well-being of individuals, communities and democratic institutions at the center of security policy. This approach recognizes that insecurity is not limited to crime and violence, but is also shaped by social inequality, absence of economic opportunities, environmental degradation, food and water insecurity, health risks, displacement, and institutional weaknesses.

Parliamentary Network on Security

Established in 2025, the Parliamentary Network on Security (PNS) provides a space for ongoing dialogue on security as a priority theme for parliamentary cooperation across the hemisphere. Through this network, ParlAmericas convenes parliamentarians from the Americas and the Caribbean to advance legislative responses grounded in a multidimensional security approach—recognizing the interdependence between public safety, social resilience, democratic governance, and development and promoting comprehensive, human-centered, and evidence-based strategies to address evolving challenges.
