ParlAmericas condemns attack at the National Congress of Honduras, in which Member of Congress Gladis Aurora López was injured

January 9, 2026 | Statement

ParlAmericas condemns the attack that occurred on January 8, 2026, at the National Congress of Honduras, in which Member of Congress Gladis Aurora López was injured.

We extend our solidarity to Member of Congress López, her family, the National Congress of Honduras, and the Honduran people, and express our wishes for her full recovery.

We call on the Honduran authorities to conduct a prompt investigation and to take the necessary steps to ensure the safety of parliamentarians and all personnel working at the parliament.

Violence is incompatible with democracy and requires a firm and determined collective response in defence of dialogue and institutional integrity. In this context, we urge all political and social actors to contribute to building an atmosphere of respect and tolerance that ensures the guarantees of democratic and parliamentary practice.
