Statement by ParlAmericas on Recent Developments in Venezuela

January 5, 2026 | Statement

ParlAmericas, as the institution that promotes parliamentary diplomacy within the Inter-American system, has consistently affirmed that the right of the Venezuelan people to determine their future freely and through democratic means is fundamental.

The priority for the international community now must be to ensure that Venezuela’s path forward is peaceful, democratic, and firmly grounded in the rule of law, fully consistent with international law, and respectful of the country’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and the democratic will of its citizens.

ParlAmericas calls on all actors to work collectively to safeguard peace, uphold the rule of law, and support restoration of Venezuela’s democratic institutions. This process must be pursued through multilateral cooperation, reinforcing our shared commitment to maintain the Americas and the Caribbean as a zone of peace and stability. As we mark the 25th anniversary of the Inter-American Democratic Charter, its principles remain as vital as ever: democracy is the right and duty of all peoples in the Americas.
